In Time
Three brutal revolutions back,
the Lady found herself in a pitch-black tunnel,
barely breathing, daily crawling, life dragging.
As if conjured by the Heavens,
the Youth sauntered through, ever graceful,
testing the waters, bouncing the light around.
Step by step, whisper by whisper,
the Youth won over the bleak future of the Lady,
constantly lounging, always waiting.
As the moon waned and the sun set,
the Lady gave in to the push and pull of her heart,
intrigued by the wonder, lulled by the comfort.
The hints were revealed, and the fire was set ablaze.
Fingers and thumbs caressed the lines and rough,
renewed faith in the divine and return to the unknown.
But the embers that sparked burned the life from them,
etched in the memory, painful to the touch,
tearing through the heart, longing for warmth.
The Lady grappled with the loss of the ideal,
the Youth shrugged away the tears that never fell,
time played the Fool’s right hand.
In a world of intertwined passages and wishes,
how often can they find stability and balance
if they will not give this another shot? In time.

New Beginnings is our third and final volume of 2020. It is also our longest yet, with close to 100 pieces having been sent in for review from over 80 writers. Additionally, this volume marks a step towards making our initiative even more inclusive, having opened submissions for art and photography, too.
2021 may not be the new beginning for which we are all hoping. In fact, it is likely that the world will stay largely the same. However, that doesn’t stop us doing what we can to make it a little better. In supporting and being involved in an initiative whose primary motivation is to build one another up, our team and readership have certainly proven to be committed to making positive change already.
