Speak up, Speak out!

Wayne Jermin

A tragic story, an unhappy past,

A head full of demons that are built to last.

Nowhere to go and nowhere to turn,

Nothing to lose and hours to burn.

Empty promises, empty spaces,

So many problems, so many cases.

Suffer in silence and pay the price,

Or tell your story and face the fight.

Help is out there, people who care,

Just reach out, let them know that you’re there.

 

I know that it’s hard to take the first step,

To let others in and offer to help.

I’ve been there, I’ve done it, I’ve walked in your shoes,

But what can go wrong, when there’s nothing to lose?

Don’t let it consume you, or take you away,

Let people know you have something to say.

I put down the blade and picked up the pen,

It’s helped me believe in myself again.

People will miss you, believe me it’s true,

It’s not worth the heartache, when help’s there for you.

 

Say the words, it’s not too late,

You’re in charge of your own fate.

I know it hurts, I know it’s tough,

I know you feel you’ve had enough.

But don’t give up and speak out loud,

Don’t live life underneath a cloud.

The choice is yours but you’re not alone,

Speak up, speak out, and let it be known.

Leave the darkness and look for the light,

I know from experience, that you can win this fight!

New beginnings, Volume 3:

New Beginnings is our third and final volume of 2020. It is also our longest yet, with close to 100 pieces having been sent in for review from over 80 writers. Additionally, this volume marks a step towards making our initiative even more inclusive, having opened submissions for art and photography, too.

2021 may not be the new beginning for which we are all hoping. In fact, it is likely that the world will stay largely the same. However, that doesn’t stop us doing what we can to make it a little better. In supporting and being involved in an initiative whose primary motivation is to build one another up, our team and readership have certainly proven to be committed to making positive change already.
